Yeahhhhh Rani Mukherjee in Kaali Nagin from Mann was an awesome item song! One of the earlier ones before it became mainstream

I think there's a misconception of what actually are
item girls = are done by actresses (and "starlets"?) NOT involved in any kind on the movie?

They are also the main actresses in the films they've done,so i don't think they should be called "item girls" (for miss sherawat is another topic) but those i have mentioned..
Unfortunately this is happening bcuz more producers have got the trend that even actresses involved into their movies,are bound to do that.
But there's this difference as i told you before.
One way is Katrina's Chikni Chameli/Malaika's Munni/and those "starlets" who are doing that in several movies (Sherawat,Sawant,Malik and more) and another..take the good ol' songs of the 90s (for example Raveena's Mein Cheez Badi Hoon,or Madhuri's Dhak Dhak/Ek Do Teen /Choli ke peeche etc..)
I dont know who is the best.. but the worst has got to chithrangadha for doing it on a horrible song with tasteless lyrics (before they were changed..)
You missed out Rani Mukerji, with one of the early item songs from Mann - Kaali Naagin, and Mein Vaari Vaari from Mangal Panday.
Aishwarya is just something else.I love love Ishq Kamina for her priceless expressions and splendid moves.And Kajra Re for her everything--her beauty,right expressions,moves etc.She's a stunning dancer.And whatever she does is just so elegant and brings so much grace to her moves.So she's just wow!
Dum Maro Dum,Sheila ki Jawaani,Chikni,Zara Zara are also nice but they worked for me only because they had foot tapping music and great moves,but were low on expressions and grace.
Bips in Beedi was nice too.
most of these aren't item songs!! they are just songs in the movie!
an item number is when a girl just does one single dance in a movie which is used to make it a hit!

Raveena Tandon is my fav but i would include her hit item number Shehar Ki Ladhki from Rakshak, She infact started the item number trend with this song
This is a very bad sign to the film industry. It just shows the respect for heroines went so down. Madhuri Dixit is the one who started this trend. She is the one who opened the door for such a bad trend!!

You guys forgot Chaiya Chaiya and Mera Piya Ghar Aya! Some of the best item songs out there.
Anyways I can't decide between Ash in Kajra Re, Madhuri in EVERYTHING, Kareena in Halkat Jawaani, and Katrina in Sheela Ki Jawaani and Chikni Chameli. They are just so different.
Saaki, Mehboob Mere (sushmita), Kajra Re, Bipasha's item songs in Omkara & Madhuri ofcourse!
I like also Sonaly bendre's humma humma from Bombay, Shamita's Sharara and Koena Mitra's Saki and Khullam khulla pyar kare...
