Halle Berry's Saree look in 'Cloud Atlas' Yay or Nay?
The look is from the upcoming movie CLOUD ATLAS also starring Tom Hanks and is multi-directed by Lana Wachowski (the recently transgendered Larry Wachowski director of THE MATRIX), Andy Wachowski & Tom Tykwer. Yay or Nay to Halle's look?

Hey a few words to the self-loathers, Halle may look hideous in your in your native costume, but have you
give a though that people might be saying you look the same way in a sari.
Don't be ignorant, be proud others embrace your culture and help heal the world of all this "HATE" and make it
a better place for all to live.
By the way do read David Mitchell book Cloud Atlas (2004) to find out what the gist of the movie by the
same name is all about.
nay
What's "the last word?" *puzzled face*
" In summary, I did a.."
haha, anon was right, you really do NEED to get in the last word ,don't you?
@Falling Star: thanks, I guess. :-) In summary, I did a 'yay or nay' fashion post on Halle Berry using this new pic released from her upcoming movie 'Cloud Atlas' in which she is essaying a diverse array of characters including (as seen here) a saree clad person. Most people responded that she looked hideous and that sarees only look good on Indians and some even took it a step further by saying she looks transgendered and why is this brown colored woman dressed like an Indian when we have plenty of real ones to spare? I then responded to the latter comment as being a racist statement and WWIII started. Scene. :-)
"I" think she looks lovely and i can't wait until the movie comes out :)
by the way i loved halle since the 90s ♥
hideous is the word to describe this!! wotevva happnd to the femme fatale halle berry? she looks like a drag queen here!! eww!
EEEEEWWWWWW!!!!! whats with that mehendi? she is looking like some indian witch who gets her evil powers from that strange tattoo...... it could have been much better if the mehendi, saree and that wig have been done nicely....
LOL what happened?
@ voiceswriter GOSH! you are popular!
i dont have that much patience to read all those comments so can anybody please tell me what actually happened? whats with the flood of comments? voiceswriter?
nay
Thanks, I will try.
she looks okay. Her hair and heena are not matching. Saree is not great either.
Voiceswriter - try meditation. It will help to resist such urges ;)
Oy anon: you know me so well, I can't resist. Que sera, sera! ;)
Only Indians look good in sarees.
To Voiceswriter - if you are so OVER it - I DARE you to not post a single more comment on this thread. Come on...Can you do it!? The URGE to have the last word is just too strong, ain't it? Of course expecting you to do the decent thing and admit that on hindsight you do agree that the racist remark was uncalled for and you were overreacting - no, no that would be too low brow for you, non?
Thu, 2012-08-02 19:22 — Anonymous - excellent repartee, my friend ;)
Tips for non indian girls who want to wear a saree:
-Black hair is the best, preferably straight but curls is fine too. No blonde, red, brown hair as it will not match the saree. Girls who dont follow this rule will never be able to adapt to any saree.
-You can wear earrings but not anything heavy
-Wear a pottu(placed on centre of forehead) that matches the saree you choose to wear.
-Dont wear high heels, wear indian women's slippers that are comfortable.
-Last but not least, learn how to redo a saree in case some wadrobe malfunction happens.
Good luck and the above as you observe dear students, this picture of Halle Berry is nothing but an epic fail.
@ Voiceswriter
Oh no, I am but an inferior being to you, as already stated, I'm no match for your sophomoric intellect motivated by narcissism. my quoting of Twi Zone is most applicable to you at the moment but I'd like to know the other interesting ppl to whom it applies ;)- but then again it would be straying from the topic. and if u'd like to take it as a compliment then please do so. Anyway, don't let me interrupt ur brilliant discussion of Cloud Atlas (the book) since most of the 'illiterate' ppl here have obviously not read it, would love to hear ur philosophical take on it and tell us what we opinion we should have of it too. Also, while ur at it, since u've accused basically every user of PV of racism (which u apparently were never "under it" to begin with), tell us what terms to avoid so we may not be labeled ignorant. Am I still allowed to call myself "brown colored woman" or is that being a reverse racist :/?
it could be better cause with short hair I find her beautiful.. but here the mehndi is awful.. the wig.. yuck!! she looks like a man..in Hindi it is "hidjra" I think..
By the way, your quote from TZ describes some of the most interesting people on the planet, not just me.
@Anonymous: Lol thanks but where is my award? You must be of supreme intellect to have notice that. *Eyeroll*
@Thu, 2012-08-02 14:07 — Voiceswriter
the only educated, non racist person on PV whose opinion matters. This person sets the standard for comments. bc u guys r anon it means that ur opinion doesn't matters and u don't know what ur talking about. U guys r not supposed to focus on the topic, talk back with facts or have ur opinion hear as it falls below that of hers. Ur only right if u digress from the original topic and use straw-man arguments or start name calling when u don't have a rebuttal relevant to the discussion. Learn from her who is the least biased person on PV, she doesn't care if she's proven wrong, as long as she gets the last word, she's happy as u can see she's a very open minded person who doesn't mind as long as u agree with her. Only she's entitled to her opinion, no one else is to think for themselves or say what they like/dislike, she should dictate ur preferences. PV exists only for her, it was founded for her.
PS-"...she is one of a breed who substitutes volume for substance, sound for significance, and shouting to cover up the readily apparent phenomenon that [she is nothing more than a person with too much time on her hands, who seems to suffer from a superiority complex and] whose noise-making is in inverse ratio to her competence and her character." from Twilight Zone. Since I'm too illiterate, I only watch tv and don't read books, but hey it teaches u something.
PV post this.
@Anonymous: don't waste your time, these illiterates can't see past their racism and hatred of others, how do you expect them to read a novel?
Oh! LOL it's a featured fashion post, that's why I'm getting the notifications. Thank you Pinkvilla.
Guys, guys calm down!!!
2)Firstly, I think she is playing a Latina in the film, as her character's name is Luisa Del Ray.
3) The scene they show here is from a party, couldn't her character be at an Indian wedding reception??
In Canada at least, when individuals of difference ethnicities go to Indian weddings, they dress up in lehngas or saris, or even kurta pajaama for the men.
People who are speculating over why an american actress is wearing a saree, kindly read the novel. It has six interlinked stories. On a second thought, she looks good but the mehendi looks awful.
If you called her black, I wouldn't have said anything. It was the description "brown coloured woman acting Indian when we have plenty real Indians to spare" that sounded off to me...like three days ago. Anywho, stop sending notifications to my phone by responding. I AM OVER IT. I WAS NEVER UNDER IT BUT ANYWHO... *EYE ROLL*
her designer has not done her justice....if halle had a beter stylist/designer,she would have looked fab...grr...however women w/ hips look much better in saris ... sri devi is absolutely gorgeous in saris.........

"Calling an African-American woman a "brown colored woman" in a dress debate is racist"
"How the hell is that racist? Where do you live ? African-Amerians refer to themselves as browns and blacks ALL the time. In face some prefer the term 'blacks' to 'african-american'. You are reading too much into it, coz you have self-hate issues. "
DITTO!!!
Voicewriter clearly doesn't have any African American friends. They are proud to call themselves Black here in North America.
I am proud to call myself a brown girl.
GET OVER IT!
