Sonam Kapoor's Neerja was expected to receive immense critical acclaim but one wasn't sure if the movie would be able to keep the cash registers rolling. But the film has succeeded in doing both.

The Ram Madhvani directed affair had a good first day and grossed INR 4.50 crores approximately on the first day. Though the movie started on a slow note, it picked up pace in the evening shows with many theatres in Mumbai recording as good as 90% occupancy. Neerja also recorded good occupancy at places like Delhi NCR, Chandigarh, Pune and Bengaluru.

According to a trade site, the business of Neerja was best in North with East Punjab collecting over INR 50 lakhs nett and Delhi/UP earning INR 1 crores approximately. Mumbai circuit has approximately collected INR 1.25-1.50 crores.

Given the positive word of mouth Neerja is receiving, a growth of 30-80% is expected over the weekend. If the film witnesses a massive jump on Saturday and Sunday, then it will be easy for it to sail through the week.
