1st Quarter Report: Airlift, Neerja, Kapoor & Sons Bag Top 3 Spots
With the first three months of 2016 having ended, we decided to have a look at the first quarter of Bollywood in terms of the Box Office report and we must say, it wasn't as disappointing as one might have thought of. The 1st quarter might have been slow but it has had one film Airlift that crossed the 100 crores mark, and two content driven films - Neerja and Kapoor and Sons smoothly sail through the 50 crores mark.
Here are the top 6 earners in the First Quarter of 2016:
Airlift: The Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur starrer bags the number one spot in this countdown. The film was critically and commercially a huge hit and minted INR 128.09 crores at the box office.
Neerja: This was one movie that left us proud, teary eyed and happy, all at the same time. Sonam Kapoor as Neerja was perfect to T and we ain't surprised that the film did well at the ticket window by collecting INR 75.34 crores.
Kapoor and Sons: This quirky, cute family film which released two weeks bag, has slowly and steadily managed to grab the 3rd spot. The film which won immense acclaim earned INR 65.07 crores and is still running successfully at the theatres. Its strong content, emotional message and powerhouse star cast worked wonders.
Wazir: The Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar, Aditi Rao Hydari and Neil Nitin Mukesh starrer might not have hit the bull's eye but was surely lauded by many. The movie ticked INR 41.02 crores and was an average at the box office.
Jai Gangaajal: Priyanka Chopra did manage to kick some serious butts in the film, which managed to recover its cost along with some profit at the ticket window. The movie earned INR 34.4 crores at the Box Office and was declared a plus.
Sanam Re: Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela's romance saga may not have received a thumbs up from the critics, but its box office numbers did make an average. The movie collected INR 27.75 crores.
