BO Report: Akshay's Rustom steals the show, Hrithik's Mohenjo Daro does slow business at the ticket-window
Akshay Kumar starrer Rustom had a good first weekend of INR 50 crore at the box-office. The business is actually better than it looks as it clashed with Hrithik Roshan's Mohenjo Daro, and the Saturday-Sunday business of the film would have been higher in the big multiplexes if it had more screens. On a solo release, this film would have been the highest Akshay Kumar opening weekend. The best business has come in Mumbai circuit at around INR 17.50 crore, Delhi UP is around INR 9.50 crore and East Punjab is INR 5.50 crore. Rustom is also a record opener for Akshay Kumar in Mysore and West Bengal with INR 2.75 crore and INR 2 crore respectively. The circuit where the collections are a little less is Nizam / Andhra and that may be because Mohenjo Daro has fared better there and had a wider release. The film will have a huge Monday, and it will be among the biggest ever, due to the Independence Day. It remains to be seen if it's among the top five Mondays of all time.
On the other hand, Mohenjo Daro had a low weekend of INR 30 crore. The film could have just capitulated as Rustom is doing very well but managed to grow on Saturday and Sunday. This won't really make much difference to the final outcome unless a miracle happens on Tuesday. The best business for the film has come in Nizam / Andhra which has clocked INR 2.50 crore over the weekend and is actually the third biggest opening in that circuit Sultan and Fan. The main markets of Mumbai and North have not done well, there has been growth over the weekend but even the Sunday numbers in either Mumbai or Delhi/ UP are poor.
So which film did you watch this weekend - Rustom or Mohenjo Daro?
