Priyanka Chopra's Baywatch off to a slow start at the box office in USA.
Priyanka Chopra's Baywatch hasn't opened to positive reviews in the US. The movie was panned by the critics. However, our desi girl Priyanka Chopra has been appreciated for her role in the film.
While in India the movie releases next week, in the US it hit the screens yesterday along with Johnny Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The two films clashed at the box office, and according to the numbers, Depp's film is a clear winner.
According to Deadline reports, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Salazar's Revenge in India) has opened to a whopping $24-$26 million (approximately INR 160 crore) at the box office. Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron and Priyanka Chopra's Baywatch has made $6-$7 million (INR 41 crore) on day one of its release.
Baywatch has been made at an estimated budget of $69 million (INR 445 crore) while Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Salazar's Revenge in India) is made for $230 million (approximately 1500 crore).
Though both Baywatch and Pirates of the Caribbean have locked horns at the US box office, in India, the former's release date was pushed to avoid the clash.
Deadline has called Priyanka Chopra's Hollywood debut film's opening numbers as slow. The report reads, "Baywatch is stuck in the sand, playing slow in its first two nights of evening play so grosses might even dip lower. Will see how it plays tonight but so far it’s not seeing any big audience play on that rating."
On the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, Baywatch has received negative reviews and stands at a meager 18%.
