Over the last one week, the film directed by Anubhav Sinha has grown steadily at the box office and recorded decent figures. The film, which is based on the Badaun rape case, revolves around the investigation of the rape of three Dalit girls by IPS Ayan Ranjan played by Ayushmann Khurrana. The 'Andhadhun' star has been praised by the audiences and critics alike for essaying the role of an unconventional cop in the drama flick.
According to a report in Box Office India, Article 15 has recorded decent figures in the first week. Despite facing stiff competition from Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh, Article 15 maintained a stronghold at the box office. On day seven i.e. 4 July, Article 15 raked in a business of Rs 3 crore nett taking its total collection to an impressive Rs 34 crore.
The film has fared very well in metros like Mumbai and Delhi but failed to create an impact in mass pockets like Bihar and Gujarat. The report speculates that the film will likely touch Rs 60 crore by the end of three to four weeks.
Meanwhile, Kabir Singh which released a week prior to Article 15 has been a blockbuster hit and will soon become the highest grosser of 2019. The film which is a remake of Telugu film Arjun Reddy has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark and may soon take over Uri: The Surgical Strike.
