It seems like war is winning over horror at the box office this weekend. Roland Emmerich is rolling out his Midway on the occasion of the Veteran's Day weekend and it is shooting down Doctor Sleep for the second spot. The war drama boasts of a stellar star cast which includes Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Luke Evans and Nick Jonas. Although the movie has fetched just 40 percent on the Tomato-meter, the audiences are flocking to the theatres to watch the World War II drama.

As per Variety, Midway has opened to a better than expected start at the box office. The movie opened with a $925,000 at 2,600 locations on Thursday night and is eyeing opening weekend collections of $21 million approximate, over the weekend. Midway will be aiming at cashing in on the patriotism vibe this weekend. While the 1942 war drama soars higher than expected, The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep doesn't seem to be far behind.

The Ewan McGregor starrer is not at par with Midway. However, Doctor Sleep is settling on the second spot this weekend. As per is heading for an $18 million opening weekend box office collection. The estimates are lower than the initial tracking. According to the international outlet, Doctor Sleep was tracking an opening of $25 million to $30 million. The movie made $1.5 million through its Thursday previews alone.

Ewan McGregor and Ed Skrein are not the only ones aiming for the top spot. Emilia Clarke is opening up the doors for some festive spirit to kick in with Last Christmas. The rom-com, which also stars Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding, is eyeing a box office collection of $13 million this weekend.
