Jab Harry Met Sejal Opening Weekend: Shah Rukh Khan starrer fares well, but is below expectations
Shah Rukh Khan-Anushka Sharma's Jab Harry Met Sejal fares low in its opening weekend.
Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma's Jab Harry Met Sejal hit the screens on Friday and opened to mixed reviews from audience and critics alike. According to a trade site, the movie earned INR 15 crore on Friday, INR 14.25 crore on Saturday and INR 14.75 crore on Sunday.
The three day total of JHMS stands at INR 44 crore. While this collection is fair given that the movie caters to the urban audience, it is below expectations in terms of a Shah Rukh Khan starrer. Despite beating the lifetime collections of many movies that have released in the past few months, the collections of this Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan starrer are low.
Jab Harry Met Sejal has fared poorly in East Punjab despite the multiplexes and West Bengal which is a SRK dominated sector. Mumbai grossed INR 14 crore nett while Delhi/UP was around INR 8.50 crore nett.
Overseas, Jab Harry Met Sejal has performed well by recording the best opening of 2017, racing ahead of Khan's previous release Raees. This is mainly because Raees didn't release in Pakistan. JHMS recorded the second best opening n Pakistan after Salman Khan's Sultan that released on Eid.
Though the film has scored well in the overseas, given that it is a Shah Rukh Khan movie, it could have scored better. Jab Harry Met Sejal is the tenth highest overseas opening of all time and the highest ever on a non-holiday release. While JHMS made $500,000 in United Kingdom, it minted $1,300,000 in USA. In Gulf it made $2,300,000, Australia $350,000 and Pakistan $650,000.
