The year 2019 has started on a low note for Saif Ali Khan, who has been yearning for a box office hit for a while now. After getting an average response to his much-awaited Sacred Games 2, the Nawab of Pataudi was keenly looking forward to his only box office release of the year Laal Kaptaan. The revenge saga was one of the most anticipated releases of the year courtesy its intriguing trailer and Saif’s impressive avatar as a naga sadhu. Helmed by Navdeep Singh, Laal Kaptaan did create the right amount of buzz before release. However, it has failed to replicate the same at the ticket windows.

After opening to mixed reviews from the audience and the critics alike, Laal Kaptaan managed to rake in of Rs. 50 lakh on its day of release Although it was expected that Laal Kaptaan will witness a hike in its collection with a positive word of mouth, this Saif starrer is still struggling to create an impact at the box office. According to Box Office India, the movie has settled with a collection of Rs. 1.75 crore in its opening weekend. With low occupancy in theatres across India, Laal Kaptaan has certainly turned out to be a disaster for the makers.

Meanwhile, a tough box office competition also added on to the woes of Laal Kaptaan. The movie witnessed a clash with Vikram Bhatt’s Ghost starring Sanaya Irani in the lead. While Ghost also had a disappointing start and has raked in Rs. 1.35 crore in the opening weekend, it is indeed giving a decent competition to the Saif starrer.

On the other hand, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s War also emerged as a big hurdle for the recent Bollywood releases. The movie, which released on October 2, has taken the box office with a storm since day one. In fact, with rave reviews and a positive word of mouth, this Siddharth Anand directorial has become the highest grosser of 2019. We wonder if the coming week will bring any relief to the makers of Laal Kaptaan makers.
