The Lion King arrived on the big screens on 19 July and three weeks later the film continues to maintain a stronghold at the domestic box office. After comfortably crossing Rs 50 crore, the Disney film entered the 100 crore club within less than two weeks and now is come close to Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30's total box collection despite the film releasing a week prior to The Lion King.

According to a report in Box office India, The Lion King maintained its record of huge growth on its third Saturday as the collections of the film more than doubled from Friday. On day 16, i.e. Saturday, the film raked in Rs 3.75 crore taking the total collection of The Lion King to Rs 130.44 crore nett.

With this, the film has now crossed the 130 crore nett mark in 16 days and will probably beat Super 30 sometime this week. The photorealistic remake of Disney's 1994 tells the story of Simba, a young cub who idolizes his father, Mufasa, the king of the jungle. The Lion King stars the voices of Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones as Mufasa, whereas the Hindi version of the film stars Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan as Mufasa and his son Aryan Khan as Simba.
