The Disney's live action drama The Lion King hit the theatres about three weeks ago in India and got a fabulous response from the audience. The film has been directed by Jon Favreau and is produced by Karen Gilchrist, Jeffrey Silver and Jon Favreau. The iconic classis narrates the story of Simba, a young lion who has to succeed his father, Mufasa, as the King of the Pride Lands.
According to BOI, The Lion King held up pretty well in its third week but the hold was not as good as the second week. The major drop in the third week was 63% while in the second week the drop was just 45%. The third week business was Rs 16 crore nett and the total collections have now gone upto Rs 141.75 crore nett after three weeks. The film is aiming for over Rs 150 crore nett, but will probably need some screen space when the new films hit the theatres on Thursday as its difficult to reach Rs 150 crore nett by the end of the fourth week.
The International star cast of the movie includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, James Earl Jones as Simba's father Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor voices Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi and JD McCrary voices the young cub Simba. While, the Hindi version has Shah Rukh Khan as Mufasa, Aryan as as Simba, Ashish Vidyarthi as Scar, Shreyas Talpade as Timon, Sanjay Mishra as Pumbaa and the legendary actor Asrani as Zazu.
