The Disney's live action drama The Lion King hit the theatres last week in India and got a good response from the audience. The original one released in 1994. The film has been helmed by Jon Favreau and is produced by Karen Gilchrist, Jeffrey Silver and Jon Favreau; the iconic film revolves around the story of Simba, a young lion who has to succeed his father, Mufasa, as the King of the Pride Lands.
The Lion King had an excellent first weekend as it touched the Rs 50 crore mark by bagging Rs 54 crores nett. The film went from Rs 11 crore nett on Friday to Rs 24 crore nett on Saturday. The dubbed versions of The Lion King performed well on the Sunday, especially the Hindi version which did good business. In fact, the movie made a record of the third highest first weekend ever after Avengers - Endgame and Avengers - Infinity War and it is also the only Hollywood film except those two Marvel films to record a collection of over 20 crore nett on a single day.
The international star cast of the movie includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, James Earl Jones as Simba's father Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor voices Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi and JD McCrary voices the young cub Simba. The Hindi version has Shah Rukh Khan as Mufasa, Aryan as as Simba, Ashish Vidyarthi as Scar, Shreyas Talpade as Timon, Sanjay Mishra as Pumbaa and the legendary actor Asrani as Zazu.
