Angelina Jolie starrer Maleficent: Mistress of Evil seems too have begun its box office journey on a decent note as it beat Joaquin Phoenix's Joker and the newly-released Zombieland: Double Tap in the US. As per reports, Maleficent 2 nowhere touched the first movie's opening collection as it raked in a mediocre USD 12 million on Friday in the US. The Angelina Jolie, Michelle Pfeiffer and Elle Fanning fantasy, came to the theatres five years later and its business was well below the 2014 Maleficent's opening collection of USD 24.3 million.
According to a report in Forbes, the film is expected to amass a total of USD 38 million over the weekend, meaning it’s going to need a big overseas assist to justify the USD 185 million budget. Despite promoting the film in various countries, the film has opened to mixed and negative reviews.
When it comes to Zombieland: Double Tap, the sequel made USD 10.5 million on Friday. The figure is about USD 2 million more than the Joker. However, reports say that it might fall flat and likely finish in third place behind Todd Phillips directorial Joker by the end of the weekend. Zombieland sequel's collection is also far lesser than its original which released almost a decade ago and raked in USD 24 million on opening day in the US.
