Master Final WW Box Office Verdict: Thalapathy Vijay's detailed lifetime report and why it's a SUPER HIT
Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi's Master records a worldwide gross of Rs 225 crore, and domestic distributor share of Rs 100 crore. Here's a detailed box-office analysis
Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi’s much anticipated action thriller, Master, is nearing the end of it’s run at the box-office as the producers on Wednesday morning announced that the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video from January 29. The announcement has come across as a surprise as the makers have maintained a mere 16 day window between the theatrical release and direct to digital premiere. However, Master has done it’s work at the box-office as in it’s two week run, the film recorded a domestic gross of Rs 185 crore, and a worldwide gross of Rs 225 crore plus, thereby emerging a profit making venture for all the stakeholders.
It was quite a mammoth task for the distributors of Master to recover their investment as Rs 96 crore were invested in acquiring the film, and it no one could have imagined the film to rake in a distributor share of over Rs 100 crore in the midst of pandemic. But well, Master has done the unexpected, and it’s sheer stardom of Thalapathy Vijay that has helped the film cross the safety mark. Of course, it also benefitted as the audience was hungry for entertainment and Master was the first event film to release in the Tamil market.
The domestic distributor share of Master stands at Rs 100 crore, whereas the worldwide distributor share of the action thriller is Rs 118 crore, as against the investment of Rs 96 crore, resulting in a recovery of almost 125 percent. Not a single distributor entailed losses with Master, and the film has indeed succeeded in getting the audience back to the cinema halls. It’s the highest grossing Indian film in the midst of Pandemic and it would be difficult for any Hindi film to recreate the hype of Master and reach closer to it’s worldwide gross of Rs 225 crore plus in at-least the next 3 months.
While many doubted on Master managing to scape through the finishing line owing to the mixed reports, it has done it with conviction and pumped some oxygen in the otherwise dead lungs of Indian exhibition sector. The success of Master (and Krack) has given some hope to the Hindi film trade as they anticipate producers to slowly and steadily announce their slate of releases in the days to come.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of Master, in India and Abroad.
