Backed by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Moana 2 hit the screens on November 29, 2024, in India. Featuring beloved characters Moana and Maui, the recently released musical animated film has witnessed a successful opening with its debut in the US and previews. Moana 2, which serves as a sequel to Moana (2016), had a decent start at the Indian box office.
Moana 2 Opens Decently On Friday, Fetches Rs 2 Crore In India
Starring Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, Moana 2 collected Rs 2 crore in India on its opening day. Cinema Lovers Day has helped the animated film earn fair money on Day 1. The decent opening is credited to the discounted prices of tickets on the occasion, as PVR Inox facilitated the cine-goers to watch the movies at Rs 99 on Friday.
On November 28, Moana 2 sold 39K tickets as of 10 pm in pre-sales in the top national chains, PVR Inox and Cinepolis.
Moana 2: Here's How Walt Disney's Film Performed In The US
Released on November 27 in the United States, Moana 2 opened to USD 43.7 million on Wednesday. A day earlier, Disney's film earned USD 13.8 million from previews. The cume collection of Moana 2 in the US stands at USD 57.5 million.

Moana 2 Is Among The Biggest Animated Film Openers
Moana 2 has emerged as the third biggest opener for an animated film title after Incredibles 2 and Inside Out 2. While the 2018 film collected USD 71.2 million and the 2024 movie earned USD 63.5 million.
Helmed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, Moana 2 has recorded the biggest preview in the history of Disney animation till date. Notably, the animated feature film also boasts of having the second-best preview after Pixar's Incredibles 2.
The word-of-mouth will determine how Moana 2 will perform at the Indian box office in the first weekend and going forward. The recently released animated film also features Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House, and Alan Tudyk reprising their roles from the original movie.
