Roohi Advance Booking Report: Horror comedy sells 16500 tickets at national multiplex chains before release

Roohi has recorded a reasonably decent advance booking by selling approximately 16500 tickets at the national chains (PVR, INOX and Cinepolis) for its extended opening weekend with approximately 75% to 80% of the tickets being sold for the opening day. The advance booking was extremely dull until Tuesday, but things picked up considerably on Wednesday, putting up a decent number in terms of the advance sales. The approx. nett value of the ticket sales at three key national chain is in the range of Rs 27 lakh to 29 lakhs, which is a fairly good number for this horror comedy and of this Rs 22 lakh plus is for the opening day.

While PVR has sold approximately 9200 tickets for the four-day weekend, Inox has sold 4500 tickets and Cinepolis on the other hand has recorded ticket sales of 2700. The numbers have come across as a pleasant surprise as a lot of naysayers in the trade were pessimistic and expecting an opening number around Rs 1 crore, but this initial response suggests that the film can well spring in a pleasant surprise with an opening around the Rs 2 crore mark, though a lot depends on the spot bookings tomorrow. The early signs are pretty encouraging, but its essential for Roohi to continue with the momentum at the box-office tomorrow and that can happen if the talk and word of mouth is tilted towards the positive side. The Covid scenario in Mumbai, which is a key theatrical market, will have a final say on the opening, as it recorded almost 1600 cases on Wednesday, which might just act as a psychological barried for a lot of people to plan a cinematic outing on Thursday. It's all dependent on the big day now, but well, the pre-release build up, as mentioned above is quite good considering the Covid scenario, 50% capacity cap and all other oppositions.

When compared to the pre-pandemic data, the movie has recorded better ticket sales than films like Panga, Pagalpanti, and even Malang, however, is lower than the last Hindi film before the pandemic, Angrezi Medium. The hope now is to see how the mass belts at tier 2 and tier 3 cities fare, as there’s the holiday in the interiors on account of Maha Shivratri, which pushes the spot bookings at the counter. Single screen audiences are usually excited by horror comedies and it would be interesting to see if that continues even tomorrow. This a step taken in right direction, and hopefully, we would see a respectable day one at the box-office. A comparative data of Roohi with some of the other releases over the last one year. The film is releasing in approximately 1500 properties with 2800 plus screens across India.
