Roohi Day 3 Box Office: Poised for another Rs 3 crore day; Sells 6.5 lakh tickets over the opening weekend
A detailed report of how Janhvi Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Varun Sharma fronted horror-comedy fared at the box-office over the three-day weekend.
The horror-comedy, Roohi, fronted by Janhvi Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Varun Sharma, surprised one and all with its performance at the box-office with a Rs 3 crore day one when the trade was not even confident of a Rs 1.50 crore opening. The film was rock steady on its second day with a Rs 2 crore plus day, taking the two-day total to Rs 5 crore. As per the limited data we have tracked so far, the movie has shown an upward trend as compared to Friday on its third day, and some places are even better than the first day i.e., Thursday.
The morning, noon, and evening shows suggest another Rs 3 crore day for the film, taking the opening weekend total around the Rs 8 crore mark. The number can be on par or even higher than the opening day depending on how well it fares in the night show. To give a perspective, PVR properties had crossed the Rs 60 lakh mark at 7 pm on Thursday, and however, the same mark of Rs 60 lakh has been surpassed at 3.30 pm on Saturday. This suggests approximately 20% growth at the property till evening shows. The 60-lakh mark, however, includes advance booking for night shows, and Saturday tends to have better advance than the opening day on a weekday.
The trend is similar at the other two national chains as well, and the initial data so far suggests that the film can breeze past the Rs 2.00 crore mark at the three chains – PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis – as compared to Rs 1.90 crore on its opening day. The film has set the box-office cycle rolling with an opening weekend of Rs 8 crore plus, with an extended four-day number expected to be in the vicinity of Rs 12 crore. The estimated three-day weekend footfall will be in the range of 6.4 lakh to 6.6 lakh, which means around 6.5 lakh people stepped out to watch Roohi on its three-day weekend.
The footfall count will go around the 9.5 lakh mark over the extended weekend, which is nothing but a phenomenal result in Covid times, with the Maharashtra circuit, which is the biggest for the business of a film, struggling to stand its ground due to the rise of coronavirus cases as also lockdown and night curfew imposed in some places.
To note, these are just early estimates based on the sample data we have received from the national chains and the actuals can vary based on how well the film fares in the night shows. But an estimated figure in the range of Rs 2.90 to 3.30 crore can be expected from Roohi. Stay tuned for more number-crunching analysis of the film.
