Roohi Extended Opening Weekend Box-Office: Collects Rs 12.25 crore, sells 10 lakh tickets in four days

The cycle to consume cinema on the big screen started this Thursday with the horror comedy, Roohi, and the film has come out with reasonable figures over it’s run at the box-office during the extended opening weekend. Roohi has collected approximately Rs 12.30 crore plus in it’s four day run, with footfalls i.e. ticket sales of approximately 10 lakh. The sunday figures are in the range of Rs 3.75 to 3.85 crore, showing approx. 15% growth from the Saturday figures. The Janhvi Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma fronted film has fared the best at the national multiplex chains with almost 63% of the business coming from three key national chains – PVR, INOX and Cinepolis. The mass belts on Sunday have recorded a very good jump, however, the multiplexes saw a jump of 15% as compared to Saturday. The Sunday figures can be higher as well, depending on how well the interiors have fared, as limited data we accessed at the single screens have shown a 3x growth.

The film collected approximately Rs 2.50 crore from the national multiplex chains on Sunday, rising by 15% from Saturday, where the PIC total stood at 2.18 crore. The approximate opening weekend total of Roohi from the national chain stands in the vicinity of Rs 7.80 crore. Even in that, the best faring circuit for Roohi was Delhi and UP, as Maharashtra is badly hit by Covid, and is far off from getting closer to the normalcy. There is lockdown and curfew imposed in some places of the state, whereas cinema halls operating at just 50 percent occupancy too has resulted as a roadblock. The real value of Roohi in today’s scenario, if Maharashtra was operating at 100 percent occupancy with no lockdown, would have been at-least a crore or two more i.e. in the vicinity of Rs 14.5 crore.

And the real value of Rs 14.5 crore in the pre-covid times would have been in the range of Rs 30 crore plus, which is a very good figure for the star-cast and the genre. The hit music (Nadiyoon Par and Panghat) and Stree hangover has helped in pushing the film to a larger chunk of audience. While the weekend numbers are good for the film given all the opposition and challenges of release, it is now all onto the important Monday test for the film to ensure a longer run at the box-office.

The reviews are generally mixed, and it’s only the unpredictability of number game that has come into play for Roohi, as most in the trade didn’t even expect a Rs 8 crore weekend for the film. It’s a sigh of relief for the makers and Hindi film industry as the weekend numbers have come in, despite a certain amount negativity by a section of media, and a relatively smaller film like Roohi overcoming the same yet again reinstates that audience is the real king and is unfazed by the social media negativity. A hold in collection from tomorrow is essential and it remains to be seen if Roohi emerges the first film in last 12 months to breach past the 25-crore mark at the box-office.
