Thackeray which is based on the life and journey of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray has managed to get a decent opening at the box office on Friday. The movie, which was made on a budget of Rs 20 crores, has earned around Rs 2.75- 3 crore (Hindi) on the day of its release and the same is Nawaz' highest opener. The movie has locked horns with Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi at the box office and is behind the Kangana starrer in terms of BO collection. However, the biopic can manage to pick up the pace on the Republic Day holiday.
As per BOI report, the bulk of the collection is from the Mumbai circuit. "The collections were pretty dull outside Mumbai circuit with collections getting worse further North you went. Like a Gurgaon or Noida were better compared to an Amritsar or Jammu," the report read. The report also suggested that the movie has only chances in Maharashtra than other states.
