Thackeray Box Office Collection Day 2: Nawazuddin Siddiqui's movie shows decent growth on Republic Day 2019
Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Thackeray released on January 25, 2019. Given the occasion of Republic Day 2019 on Saturday, the Bal Thackeray biopic showed decent growth.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui took up the task of portraying the legendary Bal Thackeray in his biopic titled Thackeray. The actor seamlessly became one with the late politician and weaved his story beautifully in the biopic directed by Abhijit Panse. The film released a day before Republic Day 2019 along with Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Given the fact that it's made on a small budget, the first-day box-office collection of Thackeray in Hindi was pretty decent.
When it comes to Day 2 collections, i.e. Republic Day 2019, Nawazuddin's film collected Rs 4.50 crore. The total collections now stand at Rs 7.25 crore (Friday - Rs 2.75 crore, Saturday - Rs 4.50 crore). When it comes to production figures, Thackeray collected Rs 10 crore in both Hindi and Marathi on Saturday which brings the total collection to Rs 16 crore (Friday - Rs 6 crore, Saturday - Rs 10 crore). Thackeray marks Nawazuddin's biggest opening to date as a solo lead actor.

Meanwhile, Nawazuddin spoke about Thackeray with IANS and stated, "I think all his anger and arrogance was justified considering the situation that the society went through during that time. There was a time in Maharashtra when all the mills were shut down and the youth there suddenly faced unemployment."
"So, Thackeray took the initiative to give these 'Marathi manoos' a direction to live dignified lives. That is how he gained the support and respect of the people," Nawazuddin added.
