X Men: Dark Phoenix: Sophie Turner's film registers the worst opening in X Men franchise history
Sophie Turner stars as Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which released on June 7, 2019, in the United States. X-Men: Dark Phoenix had the worst opening in X-Men franchise's history and was beaten by The Secret Life of Pets 2.
Sophie Turner reprises her role as Jean Grey in the latest X-Men installment titled X-Men: Dark Pheonix. Though Jean is the titular character in this storyline, we see the return of beloved actors like Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Nicholas Hoult as Beast. X-Men: Dark Phoenix may be the last time we see these actors in X-Men, given the Disney and Fox merger and hence, the film had to provide a spectacular end to the 19-year-old beloved franchise.
However, such was not the case! This Simon Kinberg directorial was thrashed by early reviews and looks like the audience is not raiding the theatre screens to watch the movie. On Friday, i.e. June 7, 2019, X-Men: Dark Pheonix had an opening of just $14 million at the North American box-office, according to Variety. The opening registered is the worst in X-Men history. In contrast, X-Men (2000) collected $20 million on Day 1. The numbers are surely heartbreaking to see.
The new #DarkPhoenix poster has arrived. Trailer tomorrow night!
The other release with X-Men: Dark Phoenix, The Secret Life of Pets 2 earned $17 million on Friday.
