EXCLUSIVE: I would love to work with Imtiaz (Ali), I’m really fond of him – Shah Rukh Khan
Off-late, there have been many news reports about filmmaker Imtiaz Ali wanting to direct his next with Shah Rukh Khan with both having met up a number of times. When Imtiaz was recently asked whether he would be collaborating with Shah Rukh, he had replied, “I hope so. I hope to work with Shah Rukh Khan. He is a very positive man. I’ve spent a lot of time with him. There is nothing confirmed so, I can’t make a statement or anything on that.” Having carved a niche for himself with unconventional romantic ‘journeys’ on screen, Imtiaz believes that their collaboration would be fun.
And in an interesting revelation, which Imtiaz has been secretive about, Shah Rukh says that he and Imtiaz have been meeting each other for last many years with the latter narrating stories to the actor just for his passion for new ideas and novel tales. Says Shah Rukh, “Imtiaz has narrated the stories to me from Love Aaj Kal to the next one that he did,Rock Star...all his films. Once in a way we bump into each other socially. I am really fond of him, I really like Imtiaz, the way he thinks, the way he writes his films. I haven’t got the chance to watch his recent film, Tamasha but I have heard a lot about it. Whenever we meet in parties, I tell him, ‘C’mon tell me some stories. Many times he comes over and narrates complete stories which are not necessarily for me. Then he would want my feedback.”
Continues Shah Rukh, “Lot of directors, like Zoya (Akhtar), Farhan (Akhtar), Imtiaz, Anurag Kashyap, Anurag Basu... they come over and we just chat. We are friends and sometimes we just want to know what we are thinking, not with me in these projects necessarily. So Imtiaz and me have done this exercise many times. We both feel that one day we will come together for a film, and if that happens, it will be very nice. I would love to work with Imtiaz.”
While Shah Rukh has been part of mushy love stories like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,Imtiaz has helmed contemporary romances like Love Aaj Kal and Rockstar. It will be quite interesting to see Imtiaz helm a project with SRK in it, their collaboration could turn out to be an off-beat one.
