Exclusive : Priyanka Chopra: It is a BIG hunt for the Perfect Dress
Priyanka Chopra is one actor who has carved her own path and has indeed come a long way. From being crowned a Miss World back in 2000, to now actually conquering the World, Priyanka has been an inspiration to many. After proving her mettle as an actor in Bollywood films, the sexy actress tried her hand in Hollywood, and has emerged a winner. Her show Quantico has been loved globally. The lady has also been the first South Asian star to have bagged a People's Choice Award. She also attended the SAGS award. Back in the country, she was also felicitated with a Padma Shri. And if that wasn't all, PeeCee has added another feather to her already flooded hat. She has been announced as one of the Presenters at the Oscars 2016, another feather in her cap.
With so much going on in the diva's life, we decided to have a quick chat with Priyanka over a call. Here's what we spoke about:
First PCA, then SAGS and now Oscars. You are on a roll Priyanka. How does it feel?
I am very excited about it of course because as an actor who is from India, though I am working here, it is a great cultural exchange. I am excited to be on the stage and to see how the evening will unfold. There has been some amazing cinema this year. I thank the Academy for including me as a part of the industry, considering that my show just aired in September.
Is it safe to say that you are now more into Hollywood than Bollywood?
I have never claimed that I would do only Hollywood. I go wherever my work takes me, it doesn't matter which part of the world it is. I am an artist and I am only true to my art. I speak English and Hindi. Today I am in America, tomorrow I can be somewhere else (Laughs). I am not binding myself by borders and the World has become too small now. Actors should be cast on their merit and how they do their job and not for how they look or come from. That is how I see myself. I am an Indian actor first. Whatever I have learnt is from the Hindi film industry first. I have been trained well enough to go anywhere in the World and know my job.
What has been your family's reaction to you being included as a presenter at Oscars 2016?
My mom has been sitting with me because since the beginning of the month something or the other has been happening. First there was PCA, then the award for Bajirao Mastani, then me going for SAGS and then there was Padma Shri, so something kept happening. She was supposed to go back to India but she ended up staying with me because it is a very exciting time right now to accumulate a lot of love not just in India but also in a country where I am completely new. As an actor, for me, it seems like I am being validated and I am probably doing right. I am getting encouragement to do what I am doing and that I should continue to do so.
Can this be called the best phase of your career?
No, as soon as you say best it means there is nothing more to come, which is not the case.
Last time when we met, you said there are few scripts which have come your way. Anything finalized?
I am right now committed mostly to Quantico I do have offers from Hindi films and Hollywood films. But the problem I have right now is that I have dates only for four months, which is from April to August. So whatever I do, I want it to happen between those few months. The films that I am talking are trying to accommodate according to that schedule, so whichever works out, I will announce it. Right now, I am in the process of figuring out which one I can do.
There are also reports that you have bagged Baywatch. Any truth?
Like I said, I am talking to a few film (productions houses) here and a few film (directors) back home. I cannot commit to anything right now. My scheduling is such a nightmare. My teams in India and here are working hard to manage the films which I can do. Will announce once things are final.
Not just for your acting, but people look up to you for your fashion choices too. So what will Priyanka Chopra wear at the Oscars 2016?
I don't know yet but I am going as an actor from Quantico. But there are few Indian designers and Western designers who are making clothes for me. We have about a month so I don't know what it would be. It is a BIG hunt for the perfect dress across the World right now (laughs) and my team of stylists are on it right now. It will be exciting now.
You recently also announced the first Mobi-Series. What made you venture into it?
It doesn't matter what the platform is and entertainment can come in any form. Since I am doing something for the first time, I am very excited about it. You know me, I am very techie and I love everything to do with gadgets and technology. It is a fun, young show and it's a web series that talks about young people living in a city like Mumbai, somewhat like how I started. I and my best friend Tamannaah started like that. We were paying guests then and are still friends. It is a very interesting story for me and as a production house, we are looking to do different things, which are not conventional and same. And that is not just my production house but even my mantra. You have to take risks to go forward and it is something I like doing.
