What took you so long to sign your next film?

Well, I took time off last year to bring up my house. I was giving it attention. I wanted to work on it as well. I wanted to look and feel better. There were a few scripts which came my way, but nothing interested me and made me jump around. I decided to wait for the right thing to come along. Meri Pyari Bindu was that film and it interested me. It took time but I wanted it to be the right film.

Despite a long break, people were eager to know which is your next film. Does that make you feel good?

I think it is a great position to be in when people still care to know what am I doing next. It is depressing for any actor when people didn't care. I am glad that I have done good work before and people wanted to know what am I doing next. of course, it does get frustrating because news reports can be untrue and most of the times they are. I wanted it to be clear that I would announce the film and had asked people to refrain from the speculations. But that happened and I suppose it is the part and parcel of our life.

How did Meri Pyaari Bindu happen?

Well, Manish, one day called me and said that there is a script and I should read it. I had heard about the script before and I knew this existed. I had already heard good things about it and Akshay had written a draft which I absolutely loved. I was onboard and very excited.

Can you tell us something about your role in the movie?

I will be singing in this film and I hope it is more than one song. That is the plan as of now. I play an aspiring singer and the film is a feel-good love story which will be emotional and heart wrenching at the same time. It is a beautiful film. I can tell you this and I am excited about this.

The title reminds us of the iconic song from Padosan and you are heard humming that in the teaser too. Is the film inspired from there?

No no, not at all, In the last four lines, I am singing that iconic song but that is because the title is Meri Pyari Bindu and we decided to play around with the words. But no it has got nothing to do with Padosan.

Will you be recreating the song Meri Pyaari Bindu in your voice?

That is something only the producers can ask.

You always wanted to sing. Now you have got an opportunity. How excited are you?

I am on the top of the world. Singing is something I have done since I was born. I have trained in Hindustani Classical Music and have taken Music seriously in life. And I am glad that Maneesh who is my producer and also my closest friend knew that I sing and he told Akshay 'Let's use Parineeti's voice in the film'. In a way, he has given me a chance and I will be forever grateful to them for giving me this chance.

You would be working with Ayushmann Khurrana for the first time...

You can only imagine how excited I am. Ayushmann and I are both Punjabis, both from North India - he is from Chandigarh and I am from Ambala, we must have had a similar upbringing. So it will be a lot of fun. We shall hopefully have a lot of singing sessions on the set and I am excited to go on set. He is an amazing actor and this will be one of his best roles that he has done.
