EXCLUSIVE: Bipasha Gears up for 'Alta' Ceremony, Wedding Rituals Begin in Evening
In an intimate and close-knit affair yesterday, Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover hosted the mehendi ceremony. The couple looked smitten by the love bug and the pics posted by their close family members & friends stand testimonial to the fact. While Karan looked dapper in an angrakha style kurta in white, Bipasha looked elegant and ethereal in a floral baby pink lehenga.
The actress, post the ceremony greeted the media with beau Karan and flaunted her mehendi clad hands for pictures. This instantly made us wonder as to why did Bipasha not apply mehendi on her complete forearms like the other brides do traditionally.
In an exclusive tete-a-tete with the actress’ close friend and stylist Shyamli Arora, when asked about it, revealed "As Bipasha is getting married in traditional Bengali rituals, before the wedding today, she will apply alta on her hands and palms. It is a common ritual followed by the brides-to-be in West Bengal, and is considered another form of putting mehendi or heena. Also, Bips was very impatient to get done with her mehendi soon as she wanted to dance (laughs)."
Shyamli further added, “The ceremony will take place today at her residence before the wedding rituals kick off in the evening.” She also revealed as to what Bipasha and Karan will be wearing for their D-Day. “So I can spill the beans now; Bipasha is wearing a traditional white and red saree with exquisite gold work by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. As Sabya himself is a Bengali, he understands the Bengali bridal aesthetics, to the T. The outfit has come out to be a gorgeous one.” And what about Karan, what is he wearing? Shyamli said, laughingly, “Karan will be seen in a traditional Bengali groom look, dhoti-kurta style. I have designed his look for the wedding part.”
Post the wedding ceremony, the couple will head to a plush 5-star hotel in South Mumbai, where a wedding reception will be hosted for the two. Though Shyamli refused to divulge any details about their reception outfits, still she shared, “It will be more on the lines of comfortable yet glamorous, so both Bipasha and Karan can easily mingle with the guest, and enjoy their special day.”
