Ban on Pakistani artists following the Uri attacks in Jammu and Kashmir created quite a stir in the country. While many artists voiced their opinions in support of the ban, many didn't agree to it and expressed their displeasure over it.

Recently, we interviewed director Mira Nair for her movie Queen of Katwe and couldn't help but ask her what she thinks about the ban. "I don't think Censorship and repression has ever helped anybody. I certainly think that art goes beyond borders and talent must go beyond borders too. Borders are man-made and they are created for political reasons. And it is really deplorable that art is being slashed like this," reasons Mira.

Quiz Nair on how her movie The Reluctant Fundamentalist would have been received, had it released in the current political scenario and she says, "I think in Modi's India, it would have a different level of hysteria. It was a film that had to be made when I made it because no one was speaking about the other side. The world was in a monologue about anything to do with Muslimhood or Islam and I wanted to talk about it from the point of view of a young brown man who wanted to negotiate his own growing up. It is a very topical film. It shows us the other side. Enough of the monologue and we need a dialogue."
