EXCLUSIVE: National Film Awards: Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari lauds Zaira Wasim on her big achievement
Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari on Zaira Wasim as the young actor bagged the National Award in the Best Supporting Actress category.
Zaira Wasim with her exemplary performance in sports biopic Dangal conquered our hearts and today the actor was accorded with the prestigious National award in the Best Supporting Actress category. Big day for indeed.
The actor played the role of young Geeta Phogat, the Commonwealth Games' gold medal-winning Indian wrestler in Dangal. Her portrayal of the role was well applauded.
Hours later, Zaira through an official statement expressed her gratefulness to the jury and the entire cast and crew especially Aamir Khan and director Nitesh Tiwari.
Well, we got in touch with Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari to know his reaction on Zaira's big win. An elated Nitesh said, "I am very happy for her and very proud of her achievement. It was a very challenging role, emotionally as well as physically and she excelled in both."
We further asked if the team is planning to celebrate this huge win, to which he said, "I am going to meet Zaira soon. And of course, celebrate karna toh banta hai."
Lauding Aamir Khan and director Nitish Tiwari, Zaira in her official statement had written, "I am extremely happy. I would like to thank the jury for conferring on me this honour. My heartfelt gratitude to my family for believing in me and to Aamir Sir and Nitish Sir for supporting me. It is very encouraging to receive an award of this stature in my debut film, the appreciation has only got me more excited to work harder."
On the work front, Zaira would next be seen in (Secret) Superstar where Aamir Khan would be seen doing a cameo.
Well, it is indeed a big day for Zaira to have bagged a National Award for her debut movie and that too in such a young age.
