Riteish Deshmukh is set to tickle our funny bones in Bank Chor. The trailer has been widely appreciated by the audience and while we wait for the movie to release, Pinkvilla had a tête-à-tête with Riteish about the movie.

Here are the excerpts from the interview:

Q: The response for Bank Chor's trailer has been phenomenal. So were you expecting such a response or was there some sort of nervousness?

One thing that Y Films decided; it stood out from the other production houses that I have worked with. Technically what we do is, throw the promo out - see the reaction and then there's a teaser, promos, songs, dialogue promos towards the end and in between we do interviews. That is the basic format which most of the films follow. But when Y Films decided to do this, they had some crazy ideas of doing some crazy stuff. You've only seen 15 percent of what's out. So they came up with the idea of parallel promotion. So what you do with the film is something...but with it, we parallelly promote the feel of the film, the feel of the characters - the craziness of what the film is. And I thought that was quite unique. That's the reason why we shot for about a week's time for the promotional stuff and we did what was needed to be done. We've really shot for some crazy stuff and it will soon be out. It was well prepared.

Q: Whose idea was the Imaandaar trailer?

That is Ashish Patil, there is no one else. He is the one who came up with the idea of 'why don't we do an Imaandaar trailer?', the fact that they are ready to take a joke on themselves. Because YRF as a brand have their own standing and the way they function but they came up with a wing called Y Films which is independent. It's like respectable parents have an uncontrollable child. (laughs) It's like padosi ka baccha hai, hamaara iss se koi lena dena nahi hai. Lekin phir pata chale ke maa baap toh yahin hai.

Q: In the Imandaar trailer, digs were taken at you as well. In a day and age where celebrities tend to take everything to heart, did you have any doubts about making fun of yourself in the trailer?

No, not really. When the idea of Imaandaar trailer happened, in which we were going to poke fun at ourselves, I didn't know what they were doing. I remember we had to dub these lines but I did not know how the trailer was going to be. I have seen it at the same time you guys have seen it. I thought it was too funny because how sad is 'gareebon ka Riteish Deshmukh?' (laughs)

Q: What was the reason for the delay of the movie's release?

Good wine takes some time to mature.

Q: Kapil Sharma was going to be playing your part in the movie before but then he opted out of it. Were you skeptical about taking the role as it would have been Kapil's debut movie?

There's a certain destiny to every film. Some people are a part of it, some couldn't take the job and some people leave a film to do something else that probably, they think it's better, or timely or any other reason for it. But, when I got the film, I looked at the subject. I usually don't look at who the film was offered to before me. Whenever I look at a film, I think it's an opportunity that has come to me and I take it. There have been other films that other people have probably rejected that has come to me, which I haven't done. It's not like someone is not doing it, I'm doing the films. But, this film I really liked so I did it. And there have been films that I have probably said no to while another actor has said yes and they are doing it. It's part and parcel of what space you are in at that point.

Q: We saw you doing comedies over the years and then we saw you in movies like Ek Villain where you shed the comic image, in which you went for a darker side - which is more difficult for you?

I really enjoy humour. There are various kinds of humour - there's poker face and there's straight face and there's clinical and so on. Some people may find it too loud and to the face while there are some who are really falling off the chair. One needs to understand the audience we cater to so I enjoy doing all this. At the same time, more than anything, I enjoy being an actor. When I get a chance to do an Ek Villain, Lai Bhaari or a Banjo, I'm really excited to be a part of these films. I think both forms should be enjoyable and you will have easy days and difficult days while shooting for it as it is not a one day job.
