EXCLUSIVE: Priyanka Chopra felt Kay Re Rascala is a good film, that was a gold medal for us - Madhu Chopra
Madhu Chopra talks about daughter Priyanka Chopra - the Producer.
Priyanka Chopra's second Marathi production Kay Re Rascala has hit the screens today. Given that her first Marathi movie Ventilator received great reviews, performed extremely at the box office and bagged three National Awards too, one wonders if with this movie, there is any pressure since the expectations are high.
Priyanka's mother Madhu Chopra admits and says, "Majorly! Because there are bound to be comparisons despite both films being different. Ventilator was a niche film. Kay Re Rascala is a fun film. The pressure is acting as a boost on the team too. When I spoke to them, that is the first thing I said. We have to match up to our first film if not better. Everybody has to put that efforts. We just want it to be loved. I don't think this movie is going to get any award. But the reward should come from the audience."
Ask her about the box office expectations from the movie and Madhu Chopra admits, "It is very hard to say. We have not made any of the films with that mind set. Priyanka feels we should make movies only for the audience and leave it to them. Her thinking is different. Agar mera bas chalta toh I would have made films only keeping in mind the box office. But today the audience is so perceptive that you cannot fool them. This film is an entertainer and I don't think we will go wrong with the box office."
Since Kay Re Rascala is their second Marathi movie and it is releasing just four days before Priyanka's birthday, how excited is the actress we ask and her mommy dearest reveals, "She is very excited. In fact she said that 'Mom we have a good film'. That was like a gold medal to all of us. The fact that Priyanka said it is good, that is a nice start. In fact, I was apprehensive with Ventilator. I thought the name of the movie was so scary. It had a veteran star cast with not a unique concept. But the word of mouth spread like wild fire. It isn't a one time watch. People have watched it over and over again. That proves the quality of the movie is good. But you cannot stick to hard hitting films. Hence this time we decided to do comedy. It is one genre which I really wanted to try."
As producers, both Priyanka and Madhu Chopra have always been connected despite the distance. Says Senior Chopra, "We stay up late nights (laughs). When we have the final meetings with the entire team, Priyanka joins us through Facetime. Mostly, it is mid night for her when the entire crew works here. But she does it. And sometimes when she needs to give a message, then it is my past mid night. We do our communication and it is an everyday thing. She is on top of it. Hence we feel comfortable because Priyanka is overseeing it. If we are taking a risk she is aware and guides us through. In fact, when she recently came to India, she saw the rough cut of Pahuna and suggested so many changes. It has now become more beautiful."
