Akshaye Khanna as NSG commando in Ken Ghosh’s next based on the 2002 Akshardham Temple Attack
The film takes the State of Siege franchise forward and marks the digital debut of Akshaye Khanna.
Over the last few years, Akshaye Khanna has won acclaim for his performances in films like Section 375, The Accidental Prime Minister, Ittefaq and Mom to name some. The actor now is gearing up for his digital debut with a feature film directed by Ken Ghosh. Titled State of Siege: Akshardham, the film takes the State of Siege franchise of Zee 5 forward. While the first part was based on 26/11 Mumbai Attacks, the second one is based on the special operation conducted by NSG commandos during the Akshardham Temple attack in Gandhinagar in 2002.
“Akshaye Khanna has come on board the film to play the role of an NSG commando who spearheads the entire mission. He has already shot for the film silently over in the month of November and December, and it is now gearing up for a premiere on Zee 5 soon,” revealed a source close to the development. This is the first collaboration of Akshaye and Ken, and according to the source, the two gelled well on the set and were on the same page when it came to the pattern of storytelling.
“The film is in the honour of the victims and fallen heroes and celebrates the spirit of India. The action scenes have been shot using modern technique of filmmaking, that would make the audience feel the adrenaline rush,” the source added. The Akshardham Temple Attack happened on 24 September 2002 and the siege continued till 25 September. In this attack, two gunmen entered the temple premises, killing 30 people and injuring another 80. The death toll included 27 pilgrims as well as two state commandos – Shri Arjun Singh Gameti and Shri Allah Rakha Unadjam as well as one NSG Commando – Subedar Suresh Chandra Yadav.
