Aanand L Rai and Mahaveer Jain are jointly producing the biopic on Viswanathan Anand. The film is expected to roll in 2022
Viswanathan Anand is one of the most celebrated chess champions in the world. He has even been conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and the Padma Vibhushan. In December 2020, a biopic on the chess grandmaster was announced, which will be jointly produced by Raanjhanaa filmmaker Aanand L Rai and Mahaveer Jain. Later while speaking to Pinkvilla, Jain had revealed that work on this much awaited film has begun, and it should roll in 2022. There is also a lot of buzz around who would play such an iconic character, and many names are floating around.
When Pinkvilla reached out to Jain inquiring about the casting for Viswanathan Anand’s character, here’s what he said. “Yes, the biopic of Viswanathan Anand is a very ambitious project for us. We are still working on the script and it is too early to comment on the casting. Personally I feel Mr. Aamir Khan would be a suitable choice to play Viswanathan Anand. But it depends on many factors,” informs the filmmaker. The story of this yet-untitled project is being developed by Ssanjay Tripaathy, while Aanand L Rai will direct the film.
In the past too, Aamir has played real life characters including Mahavir Singh Phogat in Dangal and the titular role in Mangal Pandey: The Rising. He is presently busy shooting for Laal Singh Chaddha, which is an official Hindi adaptation of Tom Hanks’ iconic film, Forrest Gump.
Jain had earlier also added that Viswanathan Anand is an iconic personality of India and they are humbled to have the opportunity to make a film on his incredible journey that will inspire the world.
