EXCLUSIVE: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan’s reel-life cop drama on hold
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan have expressed their interest in producer Shailesh R Singh’s untitled next.
After their last movie Ravan (2010), Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Bachchan have been approached for many movies together. While we know they have just signed Anurag Kashyap and Sarvesh Mewara’s Gulab Jamun, they were also interested in producer Shailesh R Singh’s (he has produced Tanu Weds Manu, Aligarh and Simran among other films) untitled next, directed by a debutant woman director. Singh's film was to start after Gulab Jamun was complete. We bring you the latest update on the Bachchan’s second film together…
Says an industry insider, “The story of the cop drama had been narrated to Abhishek and Aishwarya and both loved the story and script. Aishwarya was definitely keen to do the film but everything was to be finalized after a joint narration with the couple and the director. The film is based against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh politics and is about two IPS officers, who are husband and wife. It’s their love story and journey and the two IPS officers were to be played by Abhishek and Aishwarya. The subject is strong and befitting both their personas and we would have got to see Aishwarya doing some action too. While both Ash and Abhishek expressed interest, liked the story and were keen to take it forward, right now nobody knows the status of that film.”
When asked about the film, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is currently in the midst of promotions for her next release, Fanney Khan, says, “The cop drama was also a wonderful idea but at the time it rolled, I don’t know what AB’s (Abhishek Bachchan) eventual decision was on it so we left it at that though it hit the news. It’s been on hold for a while and I haven’t followed up and I think AB had left off for a while so I don’t know what his opinion on that is. Ideally nobody should talk about the film till it’s confirmed and all actors say yes. There was no joint narration as has been reported though it was broached and asked but up until now our work towards work remains individual which should be. Individually you need to address it as actors if it excites you to be a part of it and then if it calls for a joint narration it should be when the team calls for it, irrespective whether we are a real life couple of not. It can happen for any film.”
In the past Aishwarya and Abhishek have done Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Naa Kaho, Bunty Aur Babli (the actress had danced to Kajra re), Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2, Guru and Raavan.
