EXCLUSIVE: Ajay Devgn reunites with Sanjay Leela Bhansali tomorrow; Ready to join Alia Bhatt on Gangubai

On February 24, the Gangubai team unveiled the film’s teaser on the account of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s birthday and also announced that the film will release in cinema halls on July 30. The audience were taken aback by the grandeur as also Alia Bhatt’s performance in the teaser. And now, Pinkvilla has got an exclusive update on this Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial. While it’s known that Ajay Devgn plays has an extended appearance in this period drama, we have learnt that the actor starts shooting for his part in this SLB and Jayantilal Gada production from tomorrow in Mumbai.

“It's going to be a key role for Ajay in the film, however, it's among the most powerful and impactful character of the film. Gangubai's journey can never be complete without Ajay's track, and one will get to see a dynamic chemistry between Ajay and Alia in the film," revealed a source, adding further that a massive set has been constructed at filmcity in Mumbai to can the sequences of Ajay in the film. "It's a role that demanded the presence of an reliable actor, who also has the persona and aura of superstar. And who better than Ajay for the same." Gangubai marks the first collaboration of the two A's - Alia and Ajay.

Its going to be a reunion for Ajay with Bhansali as the two have previously worked together in the 1999 hit film, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. In the past, Ajay has won over the audience with his portrayal in period films set in the backdrop of Mumbai in films like Company and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, and given that he collaborates with Sanjay Leela Bhansali after 21 years, one can expect another powerful performance from the actor.

Meanwhile, over the last few months, Ajay Devgn has been shooting for his directorial, MayDay, which features him and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. It is said to be an edge of the seat drama set against the backdrop of the aviation sector. The actor has also resumed work on his sport-drama, Maidaan, wherein he plays the character of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim and will soon start his work on Indra Kumar's next film, Thank God.
