EXCLUSIVE: Deepika Padukone to be credited as co-producer for Karan Johar's next venture

For everyone who has been waiting to know what's in store for Deepika Padukone, here it is. The ace heroine had recently revealed that she's signed a dark romantic thriller. It was later revealed that the movie she mentioned, will be directed by Shakun Batra under the able guidance of Karan Johar. Dharma Productions will be bankrolling the project that is expected to go on floors around February 2020.

That's not all. KJo, at the trailer launch of Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Good Newwz, announced that his production house makes sure both men and women working for them are paid well and he also revealed that in the next few months, he will soon make announcements where a female star headlining his production ventures, will also get a co-producer credit to it.

And now, Pinkvilla can exclusively reveal that the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director plans to bring in the new change with DP. "Dippy's film with Shakun has her playing the central character. She shoulders the film, that is a dark romantic drama, where Siddhant Chaturvedi has been paired opposite her. Karan and Deepika discussed the project and the actress really loved the idea. In fact, she also spoke to Karan and they both agreed to have her on board as a co-producer." Interestingly, this won't be the first film that will be rolled out under the superstar actress' banner. Kabir Khan's '83 that stars her and husband Ranveer Singh together for the first time after their marriage, will be her debut production venture. It's now interesting to see Bollywood actresses taking the lead and matching footsteps with the top male stars. Apart from getting co-producer credits, some are also receiving a profit share revenue from their films. Times are changing...slowly but steadily!
