EXCLUSIVE: How important is Zero's success for Shah Rukh Khan? Trade Expert reveals
Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming movie, Zero, is just a few days away from its release and trade expert Girish Johar digs deep into why the film's success is important for the superstar.
2018 saw a paramount shift in Bollywood, especially when it came to the box-office draw. The Khans of Bollywood - Salman Khan and Aamir Khan failed to deliver the blockbusters they were accustomed to and instead left us with duds like Race 3 and Thugs of Hindostan. All eyes are now on one Mr. Shah Rukh Khan, whose last release Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017) did not match up to the calibre of SRK's stardom. His upcoming movie, Zero, also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma while Aanand L Rai helms the ambitious project.
In an EXCLUSIVE interaction with Pinkvilla, we spoke to trade expert Girish Johar about how important is Zero's success for Shah Rukh. On this, Girish shared, "Shah Rukh already has the Rakesh Sharma biopic in his hands. He will move on to that project immediately. But, it is very important for Zero to succeed, considering the fact that 2018, none of the Khans have worked so far - be it, Salman or Aamir. All eyes are on Shah Rukh. I have a gut instinct that he will deliver."
"The tide has to change. We all know that they have been ruling the industry for the last three decades. We also know that they have turned 50 so they have to do the matured roles and they have to do it smartly. I think Akshay Kumar has done that beautifully, with the social message route. Salman has gotten his commercial cinema knack but that sometimes works and sometimes, it doesn't. Aamir can do a 3 Idiots and a Dangal, he's a master of transformation. Shah Rukh has to still find his way. For him, it is very critical. He has to maintain his stardom and the competition is very tough. But I think he will...for example, Badhaai Ho is a good film and it's still running till today. If the film is good, nothing can stop it," Johar added.

Meanwhile, when Shah Rukh was asked the same question by Hindustan Times, the actor had responded, "If people feel that Zero is very important for me, it’s their feeling. God forbid, if this film doesn’t work, what will happen? Maybe, I won’t get work for six months or 10 months, but if I believe that my craft and art is good, I will continue to get work."
