EXCLUSIVE: Janhvi Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan to play siblings in Dostana 2
After KJo announced that Janhvi Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan will play the lead in Dostana 2, we heard that they are not romantically paired opposite each other. In fact, the story has a new twist. Read for details.
It's been just a week to the big announcement that Karan Johar made on social media. He revealed that Dostana is indeed having a sequel and also introduced the fresh cast of the romcom to the world. Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor have been locked in to play the main leads, while the team is on the lookout for 'a suitable boy' to play the other guy in the second part.
But while the previous installment had John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan playing straight boys pretending to be a gay couple, while they were interested in Priyanka Chopra, the sequel will have a different take on homosexuality. And if you thought Kartik and Janhvi will be romancing each other, you'd be surprised.
Says a source close to the development, "Kartik and Janhvi are not paired opposite each other in Dostana 2. In fact, they are playing siblings in the film. This is a new brother-sister pairing that KJo is introducing with the movie. The reason why they called the third lead 'a suitable boy' is because both Janhvi and Kartik have the same love interest, to be essayed by this newcomer that Dharma plans to launch with the sequel." We contacted Karan Johar who chose not to respond to our text till the time we put the story out.
When they narrated the story to both the primary leads, they fell in love with the subject. "Kartik okayed it at one go. Janhvi also stood by the subject because she feels these films will ease out and normalise homosexuality." Kartik has taken a different route this time and this also will be a huge step where yet again, we have mainstream actors playing homosexual characters on screen. Recently, Sonam K Ahuja played a gay character in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga and now, her cousin Janhvi has okayed a film on the same subject. Kudos to the team for this!
