EXCLUSIVE: Katrina Kaif on Tiger Zinda Hai co-star Salman Khan: It's hard to describe our equation; I like him
Katrina Kaif speaks about her equation with Salman Khan, training for the combat scenes in Tiger Zinda Hai and her journey in Bollywood so far.
Katrina Kaif is back in action heroine avatar with Tiger Zinda Hai where she will be seen opposite Salman Khan after five long years. The movie is a sequel to Ek Tha Tiger which was directed by Kabir Khan and has released today (December 22, 2017).
The movie is backed by some kickass action sequences and is the perfect way to end the otherwise dull year. Tiger Zinda Hai is an action thriller directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The movie is already off to a flying start.
Meanwhile, we caught up with Katrina Kaif recently who spoke about her equation with Salman, training for the combat scenes and her journey in Bollywood so far.
Here's an excerpt from the interview:
Tiger Zinda Hai is not just about Tiger but it is equally about Zoya. We saw you do some kickass actions stunts in ETT as well. What was the most difficult part of doing Tiger Zinda Hai?
Probably, the training was a little difficult because physical training can be very taxing and it is hard because I am not a gymnast or a martial artist that it comes naturally to me. I had to work hard for it and there was a lot of physical training for all of us in the team for all the stunts and all of that. Ali got a great team together, great energy, different people came from different disciplines. For gun training, we had people who had been in combat for several years and who knew exactly how to handle each weapon. For the hand to hand combat there was a different set of choreographers, so it was good, good to learn all these things.
It's been five years since Ek Tha Tiger. What will be the major difference people see in TZH?
Well, it is five years later so if you imagine the passage of time and what must have happened in those years, so we pick up from there and I think Ali has picked it up in a very nice way. The difference between Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai is that now we see them in their capacity as agents and Ek Tha Tiger was more about two agents falling in love and their love story.
How was the atmosphere on the sets when you, Salman and Ali were together on the sets? Did Salman help you ace any action sequences?
Yes, of course. It was wonderful. Every day on the sets was really warm and everyone was happy, there was a lot of fun vibe. Ali has really worked hard. Honestly, I think the person who has worked the hardest in the film is Ali. As a team, Salman and Ali have a lot of fondness for each other, as they have worked together in Sultan. There was a lot of warmth between the two and Ali is really fond of Salman. Ali is also one of my good friends so it was a nice environment on the sets.
You will be seen reuniting with Salman after five years in Tiger Zinda Hai. How is your equation with him on the sets and personally too given that you share a great camaraderie with him offscreen?
I don't understand this personal and professional equation. As a capacity on sets, we are all professionals, we all come in the capacity of us being actors. He is an actor, he comes to sets, he is there to work and I am there to work. As a person, he has known me since I was 17, it has been quite a few years now that we have known each other. It is hard to describe our equation but the most important thing is that there is a lot of respect between us for each other. I like him as a person, I like who he is and what he stands for.
If you have to describe Zoya and Tiger's relationship in two sentences. How would you do that?
I think two very strong people who have minds of their own and who see life in similar ways.
If a sequel to TZH is made, what would like the movie's title to be?
It doesn't matter to me what the title is, what matters to me is what I am doing in the film. Let the title be nothing, let it be anything you want but what matters is that I am in the film and what is my role in it.
You have completed almost 15 years in the industry. How has the journey been so far?
I think one should only sum up their journey at the end of it. How I have grown or evolved as a person I think what I have noticed is the changes as a person. I think it is important to take a moment and appreciate what all has happened, feel good about all that has happened, all the opportunities that have come, all the success, all the high points, all the exhilarating moments and then appreciate all the lows and any difficult times which has come as an opportunity and a lesson that life needs to teach you and the things you need to learn to evolve as a person and grow. So for me, I see it as a lot that has happened in the last few years.
The trailer looks really good and we see you in an intense action avatar. The entire industry is literally looking at TZH to rescue them from the dull year it has been, do you feel the pre-release jitters?
You can never know anything. I believe it is a great film, it is entertaining and I believe people are going to like it. Besides that, I am calm. It is more because of the fact that we have all done the best of what we could. I feel happy with the work we have done and with what we have achieved. I am happy with the result. But other than that I am calm about it, of course, you are excited, you are anxious, you want to know the result but it is in a calm way. It is is not in a frazzle, hyper, all over the place way.
