EXCLUSIVE: Kristen Stewart: Not having the idea of beauty tied to who you want to sleep with is cool
Kristen Stewart, in an EXCLUSIVE interaction with Pinkvilla, got candid about the male gaze vs women seeing each other through their own lenses. The Charlie's Angels star believes that women really admire each other in a way that men don't. Watch the full interview below.
Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska are the new age friendship goals as they star in Elizabeth Banks' Charlie's Angels. An unconventional casting choice, Kristen digs deep into her character of Sabina and with pleasant surprise, shows off her comedic chops and is backed by the cuteness of Ms. Scott and the tough girl act by Ella. The trio is a bunch of unapologetically sexy women who can kick some major butt, but they don't necessarily look at their characters as "being sexy."
During an EXCLUSIVE interaction with Pinkvilla in New York, Naomi spoke candidly about what it is that makes the Charlie's Angels sexy. "I like the fact though that our characters don't necessarily think about being sexy. I mean, when watching these guys, I'm like, 'Wow, damn!' But, for example, Jane is just thinking about being precise, Sabina is just being a puppy... just being herself. Me, I'm just screaming most of the time. We don't necessarily think about that, which is what I think makes it sexy, maybe? I don't know."
Mirroring Scott's stance is Stewart, who added, "The whole male gaze thing vs seeing each other through our own lenses, not in a way that brings sexuality into it in any way but, women really admire each other in a way that men don't. We appreciate beauty in this really cool way and repossessing that idea of beauty and not having it necessarily tied to who you want to sleep with or who you have a crush on is really cool."
"I look at these girls and I'm just... I think they are stunning animals. They're beasts and they're majestic and I just admire them so much. That's something only... girls know how to take care of each other in a really beautiful way," the Twilight (2008) star concluded.
