EXCLUSIVE: Madhuri Dixit makes a comeback as Nisha with Tuffy, the dog, from from Hum Aapke Hai Koun
Fans of Madhuri Dixit are in for a treat as she makes a comeback with Tuffy, our beloved dog from Hum Aapke Hain Koun. Find out how.
Who can forget Tuffy the pooch (Redo) and Prem’s (Salman Khan’s) best friend in Sooraj Barjatya’s musical entertainer, Hum Aapke Hai Koun..! (1994) who reunites him with Nisha (Madhuri Dixit Nene) at the end? As the movie celebrates its 25 years, the dhak dhak girl who stole everyone’s heart in HAHK, has done it again with her dynamic performance at Zee Cine Awards 2019 as she danced as Nisha with Tuffy, the adorable Spitz from the movie, on stage.
Says a source, “Madhuri is known for impeccable dance moves and her performances in Hum Aapke Hai Koun..!, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Tezaab, Beta and many more movies, have won her accolades. The actress’s superhit movie Hum Aapke Hai Koun..! recently completed 25 years and Madhuri celebrated this milestone in a very unique way. She reprised her role of Nisha from the movie and danced to a medley of songs from the movie, including Didi tera dewar deewana and Dhik tana dhik tana, apart from her other hit dance tracks from different movies. While she danced the hosts for the evening, Vicky Kaushal and Kartik Aaryan, had something special lined up for her. They surprised Madhuri and the audience by introducing Tuffy, the adorable Spitz from the movie. Bollywood buffs who have watched the movie will remember Tuffy as the cute pet dog, who was instrumental in bringing Nisha (Madhuri) and Prem (Salman Khan) together when he brings Nisha’s letter to Rajesh (Mohnish Behl). He was introduced to Nish by Prem as ‘Yeh hamari parivar ki priya sadasya hai. He never bites, he only bites.”
The source adds that it was a fun yet deeply nostalgic moment for all. “The original Tuffy, whose name was Redo, had passed away so the organisers decided to get a large-sized Tuffy (man in costume) to dance with Madhuri, Vicky and Kartik on-stage. The audience enjoyed the light moments with Madhuri’s breath-taking moves and beautiful costumes, which transported them back to the 90’s when Tuffy was the jewellery-carrying umpire and saviour of the joota chhupai ceremony. Tuffy was an integral character of HAHK and buzz is that he was adopted by Madhuri Dixit after the shooting of Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! was complete and passed away in 2000.”
The Zee Cine Awards 2019, had a host of celebrities attending the events this year, some of whom included Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Vicky Kaushal, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam K Ahuja, Katrina Kaif, Karan Johar, Kiara Advani, Kartik Aaryan, Kriti Sanon, Hema Malini, Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, Chitrangada Singh, Dia Mirza, Arjun Rampal and Nora Fatehi among others.
