EXCLUSIVE: Namaste England's Parineeti Chopra: I'm a person who doesn't believe in dating or one night stand
In an EXCLUSIVE interview, Parineeti Chopra spoke candidly about Namaste England, working with Arjun Kapoor, her idea of love and much more. Read full interview inside.
When you meet Parineeti Chopra, it is her warmth that really makes you comfortable as we chat and laugh whilst exchanging some words on her latest movie Namaste England, where she reunites with her Ishaqzaade co-star Arjun Kapoor. However, much to my dismay, Parineeti wasn't keeping too well on the day of the interview but fought on like a happy trooper and answered the questions posed to her before she wrapped up for the day. When asked point blank if she ever got bothered by trolls, which continues to be a cause of worry on social media, she smiles, "Nobody trolls me."
However, when questioned on the culture of trolls which has been spreading like a plague on the Internet, she said, "I think none of us react to trolls. I am speaking for all the actors, that we don't even read the comments because we realise that the people who are trolling are those useless ones who have nothing else to do. We, go by, what actually people around us have to say because that is more important."
Why did she choose a movie like Namaste England to star in? To this, she shared, "I actually love commercial Hindi mainstream cinema. I wanted to do a film like that as an actor, I wanted to do a film where there is a hero, a heroine and a love story, a very simple story and Namaste England was exactly that. It was also a good film for Arjun and me to come back and I knew that it would be special, doing a love story of that Ishaqzaade couple, and I am a huge fan of [director] Vipul sir so, everything just fell into place."
Arjun and Pari unquestionably make for a good looking pair onscreen. When I asked Pari the quintessential question whether she thinks it is her camaraderie with him offscreen which translates onscreen, she quipped, "I make Arjun look very good. He was extremely honoured and lucky to be working with me and he is nothing without me." But before you form an opinion, Pari shrieked a "NOOO!" and laughed, "I think it does [with reference to the question]. I think that the comfort and friendship really work if you have an equal relationship with somebody where you are not worried about following a protocol of being a co-star."
"You can just be yourself, and I think then you can do the romantic and emotional scenes better. You can do any kind of scenes better together because you are a good team. I think Arjun and I are a good team because of our friendship. We make lots of fun of each other, we don't talk normally to each other and because of that, I think the love and honesty are equally more. So I think that translates onscreen as well," she explained.
Moving on, Pari stressed about why she thinks Namaste England is a different character for her. "For me, this film is different from what I have played earlier, from what I have done before. Before I have always done some high concept subjects, rom-coms or in the case of Golmaal, a franchise film. This actually is a film which is very traditional, simple and Hindustani at heart. The kind of mass entertainment, mass India enjoys and I think that is what excited me to do the film."
Interestingly, Pari who keeps her personal life too private opened up about her definition of love when asked if she believes in the movie's tagline 'Love can travel any distance.' Smiling wholeheartedly, she stated, "Yes, and 100% percent, I am. I am a person who doesn't believe in dating or a one night stand, or casual relationships. I am a person who believes in serious and committed relationships where there's loyalty towards each other and that is what matters. I totally believe in 'Love can travel any distance.' I think you haven't lived your full life if you haven't given your heart out or had your heart broken by somebody."
Moving to films again, I asked her if she is amongst those whose choice of films are influenced by what her fans might want her to take? "Only, nothing else matters. I think you need to give the kind of entertainment that the audience is expecting. Yes, you must surprise them also but I think the films are being made for them. They are the ones who will be spending that money to buy a ticket, so yes, I only keep in mind what will work best and what is good for the fans," Pari stressed.
Incidentally, Pari is also reuniting with her Hasee Toh Phasee co-star Sidharth Malhotra for Jabariya Jodi. Pari was also seen trolling the rumours of Sid walking out of the movie recently and when reminded of that, Pari laughingly added, "I had to make a joke about it because I was literally shooting with him at that moment. So when that tweet came up where Sid apparently walked out of the film, I looked at him and said, 'I am going to tweet something and I was like who is this person who is impersonating Sid in front of me.'"
She concluded, "Ekta [Kapoor] also sent me a text saying 'hahaha', I told her this is some K serial thing happening. But that is the person I am, I like to joke about things, I like to make people laugh. And obviously, it was all bullsh*t, we have almost finished the film, last few days are left. With Sid, it is amazing. Both our energies translate to something really good onscreen."
Namaste England released today and has open to mixed reviews.
