Pahlaj Nihalani has filed a writ petition challenging the unjustified cuts meted to his film Rangeela Raja that is slated for release on November 24, 2018. Speaking to Pinkvilla, Nihalani said, “I have moved court against the CBFC for giving 19 cuts to my film which is unfair to my film My film does not have any vulgarity or kiss in the film so I definitely need a UA certificate for the film.'' Pahlaj added that the CBFC is a certification body and cannot censor a film. “One of the dialogues in the film where the actor says jab jab sita ka raavan ne haran kiya Hanuman usko bachane aayega has been deleted from the film for reason best known to Prasoon Joshi.''

Pahlaj Nihalani also added that Udta Punjab had 89 cuts but after the makers moved court, the court cleared the film with just one cut and asked the CBFC to issue a fresh certificate within 48 hours. “I am hoping that happens to my film too,” he said.Pahlaj claims that he had applied for certification of the film about 40 days ago but Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan was given preference over his film. He said, “I wanted to release the film on Diwali but CBFC has not let that happen so had to push the release for a later date.''

When asked if there was a vendetta angle to the problems he is facing with the CBFC. Pahlaj said, “It is for the people to decide I do not want to comment.''
