EXCLUSIVE: Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh were the ORIGINAL heroes of Takht; Details Inside
Karan Johar had approached Ranbir Kapoor for Takht and he did give his nod to do the movie. But unfortunately, since the Kapoor lad is tied up with the shooting of Brahmastra, the actor had to opt out of this.
Trust Karan Johar when it comes to pulling off a casting coup of sorts. The filmmaker has time and again managed to get a stellar ensemble cast for his directorials and productions. After announcing the massive cast of one of the most anticipated films of 2019 - Kalank, which stars Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead, KJo has revealed the spectacular star cast of his next as a director - Takht. The movie, which was announced a few hours back brings together stars like Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor in prominent roles. It is a historical drama based on the life of Mughal emperor Shahjahan and his kids. Reportedly, the movie will explore sibling rivalry.
Interestingly, Vicky Kaushal plays the role of the menacing king Aurangzeb, best known for his cruelty and evil nature. While we are sure Vicky would do immense justice to this character, we got to know from a source, that he wasn’t the first choice for this role. Karan Johar was keen on casting Ranbir Kapoor in this act. KJo approached RK for the movie and he did give his nod and was more than willing to do the movie. But unfortunately, since the Kapoor lad is tied up with the shooting of his another mega project Brahmastra, he had to opt out of this. Informs a source in the know, “Ranbir has his plate full with Brahmastra which is going to be a three part movie. After that, he has Karan Malhotra’s Shamshera and Luv Ranjan’s next with Ajay Devgn. So he didn’t have dates to allot for this movie. Hence he had to opt out of Takht, despite loving the script and wanting to do it.”
Adds another source, “Ranbir was more than excited to work on this project which would have been his first film with his sister Kareena Kapoor Khan. Apart from Bebo, this would have been his first project with Ranveer Singh too. In fact, when Ranveer and Ranbir had come together on Koffee with Karan, both had expressed their desire to work together. Hence it was all the more exciting. But things didn’t work out and that is when KJo approached Vicky Kaushal.”
How we wish that RK could have taken up this much ambitious project. Directed by Karan Johar, Takht releases in 2020.
