EXCLUSIVE: Rani Mukerji reveals the moment when she realised she was born to be an actor
After a power-packed performance as a police officer in Mardaani, Rani Mukerji enthralled everyone with her earnest performance in Hichki, a movie where she plays a teacher suffering from Tourette syndrome.
Rani Mukerji won hearts recently with her earnest performance in Hichki, where she played the role of a teacher suffering from Tourette syndrome. The actor might have clocked 40 just recently but continues to be 20 in the heart.
In a letter issued on her birthday, Rani mentioned that it was only eventually that she realised that she was born to be an actor. Taking a cue from that, we asked Rani if she could recount the period when she gave in to her passion and embraced cinema.
"I think it has happened gradually over the years because you suddenly realise that you love your work," Rani said while adding, "I love my craft, I love acting, I love the fact that I am doing what I really love to do because I see so many people being unhappy about the job they do. I feel blessed that I am in a profession which I absolutely adore doing."
She further added that it was while shooting for Saathiya (2002) that she realised she was born to be a part of showbiz. "I think it was during Saathiya that (I realised I was born to be an actor) when you play a good character, which you relate to as a person, it gives you a different kind of high. I think the change probably happened during the time of Saathiya," Rani recalled.
Given the legacy that Rani has built, we also asked her how would she like to be remembered, a superstar or a great actor? To this, Rani with the most genuine smile said, "I would like to be remembered as a nice, warm and friendly person. I think that is more important because that comes first and everything rest follows."
Meanwhile, talking about Hichki's success, Rani said, ''More than tasting sweet, I think it brings relief and happiness to all of us because all the things that we did went against set 'norms'. There are always doubts in people's hearts and minds about whether a married actress, who is also a mother now, will be accepted by the moviegoers or not. Plus, this is not a masala film. It's a sweet story about education and has a message for the society."
