EXCLUSIVE: Shahid Kapoor's mom Neelima Azeem on Padmavati controversy: There is no logic to it, obviously there is some vested interest
Shahid Kapoor's mother Neelima Azeem react to Padmavati controversy.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati is two weeks away from its release but the controversies are making sure that the film doesn't have a smooth release. The movie will see Deepika Padukone playing the titular role as Rani Padmavati while Shahid Kapoor essays the role of Maha Rawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji.
The movie releases on December 1, 2017. We got in touch with Shahid's mother, Neelima Azeem, to know what does she think of this controversy. Coming to the defense of the movie, Neelima said, "Actually, there is no logic in the controversy. If there was any scene which they are raising voices against, then I would say that there is a controversy but they are actually raising their voice against something which is not there in the film. It doesn't make sense."
She further added, "They are saying there are scenes of a certain kind which is not there, obviously there is some vested interest. Moreover, we are a democracy, we have the creative freedom. I feel the Government has to take some stand here."
However, she said that she is optimistic that things will work out in the movie's favour. "I am sure something will come around. Itni badi film ko kaise rokh sakte hain?," she stated.
When asked if Shahid has discussed this with her or if such things have got him worked up, Neelima added, "Shahid is a very balanced person, he doesn't react to things. He believes in the best and does his best. At the same time, I don't think he would be discussing things like this because it is really in Mr Bhansali's hand now and I am sure he will take care of his film very well."
"It is such a huge and beautiful film. It is the most awaited film in the world. These [vandalism] things must be taken seriously because these movies are representing India all over the cinematic world. I think the voices of the people must be heard as they are the ones who watch the movie," Azeem asserted.
When asked about Shahid's onscreen pairing with Deepika in the recently released song Ek Dil Ek Jaan, Neelima agreed that the duo makes for a good on-screen pair.
Talking about the song, she said, "I love the song, it is classical based. Given that I come from the world of music and dance and the song has my favourite rag too, I love it. Also, the singer has sung it so well. The moments shown in the song are so luxurious, it is very grandly done. I don't think I have seen such a film before, from whatever I have seen in the trailer and songs. The performances are beautiful and both are looking so good together."
