EXCLUSIVE: Sidharth Malhotra's Marjaavaan postponed to avoid clash with Hrithik Roshan & Tiger Shroff's WAR
Although WAR and Marjaavaan were going head to head against each other on Gandhi Jayanti this year, good sense has prevailed and Nikkhil Advani has decided to shift his film.
With over 200 big releases every year in a span of just 52 weeks, clashes are bound to happen. But sometimes, when two or three big films clash on a particular date, it not only eats into each other's business but also leads to unnecessary speculation. Sometimes, good sense prevails and the makers avoid such clashes whereas most of the times, the producers decide to go one on one against each other at the box office.
After the big clash between Mission Mangal and Batla House this Independence Day, the industry is expecting a big competition between two other big projects - YRF's WAR starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, and Nikkhil Advani's Marjaavaan that is headlined by Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria. But we hear the clash has been averted. Our source tells us, "The producers of the Milap Zaveri directorial recently had a meeting where they decided that they will indeed shift their film to a later date. It's one of their premium projects this year and given the mass connect it has, they want a better release window for the film. Although the October 2 weekend meant an extra national holiday, a clash with Hrithik and Tiger would not only cause a dent in their figures but also cause an incredible screen crunch. But releasing it on a normal day also will mean a better opening day and weekend figures because the film is expected to be a rage in the mass belts."
Instead, Nikkhil and Bhushan Kumar of T-Series who has bankrolled the masala actioner has decided to postpone the film by around a month's time. "Marjaavaan will mostly release in November now. They are looking at a solo release because the film is high on action and masala and will cater to the Hindi film watching audience in smaller centres more than any other film. On the other hand, WAR will have a solo release on Gandhi Jayanti. The official announcement about the same will be made soon." But like they say, all's well that ends well
