EXCLUSIVE: Sridevi’s English Vinglish co star Adil Hussain remembers the actress: Miss her presence on screen
Sridevi has given path breaking performances in films like Sadma, Mr India, Khuda Gawah, Chandni and ChaalBaaz. Today marks the third death anniversary of the actress
It is still hard to believe that superstar actress Sridevi is not amongst us anymore. She has given path breaking performances in films like Sadma, Mr India, Khuda Gawah, Chandni and ChaalBaaz amongst many others. Today marks the third death anniversary of the legendary actress. Earlier on February 24, Sridevi’s daughter-actress Janhvi Kapoor posted a sweet note on social media that was penned by her mother. It read, “I love you my labbu… you are the best baby in the world”.
Now, Sridevi’s English Vinglish co-star Adil Hussain opened up to Pinkvilla about working with the late actress. “I miss her absolutely. I miss her presence on the Indian screen after she came back with English Vinglish, which definitely cannot be fulfilled by anybody else at all. It's a feeling of a void, but I have accepted that she is not there anymore. That’s the only way I can put it I guess,” says Adil, adding that he has a lot of good memories of working with Sridevi.
“First of all I was very new to the Hindi film world. I was just two or three films old, and she was probably 300th film old, but the way she treated me, respected me and had an amazing sort of affection for my work whatever I had done, is very rare. Generally actors of that stature don’t really bother about newcomers, but she had been exceptionally affectionate and respectful,” Adil reminisces. He adds that talking about Sridevi in past tense is still ‘awkward, strange and bizarre’.
“The first reaction I had was that this is not possible what had happened,” the actor says.
Has he been in touch with Sridevi’s filmmaker-husband Boney Kapoor? “We were supposed to do a project together with Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi, but it hasn’t yet taken off. It would have been wonderful though,” he signs off.
