EXCLUSIVE: Thakur Anoop Singh on stepping into Suriya’s shoes for S3’s Hindi remake: It’s a big responsibility
The Hindi version of S 3 aka Singam 3 will be directed by Guddu Dhanoa and produced by Jayantilal Gada
Pinkvilla was the first to report that Thakur Anoop Singh will step into Suriya’s shoes for the Hindi remake of Hari’s 2017 Tamil action film, S 3 aka Singam 3. Besides Suriya, the South film had also featured Anushka Shetty and Shruti Haasan in pivotal roles. We recently also reported that Shah Rukh Khan’s Deewana producer Guddu Dhanoa will helm the Hindi version of the film. Now, in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, Singh opened up about his upcoming film.
Prod him on how it feels to step into Suriya's shoes for Singam 3 and he says, “Suriya sir is a superstar and a powerhouse of talent. I am a fan of his skills, work ethics, dedication and passion for his work. Stepping into his character that he has immortalised and made his own, in itself is a big responsibility and an honor that has been bestowed upon me. He made Singam as a cop a benchmark, and I will try my level best to justify the same. But yes, I will add my own flavor to it as well,” says Thakur.
So how did Suriya react when he knew that Singh will reprise his part in the Hindi remake? “He was very euphoric, wished me luck, advised me to have patience and work will follow. I have worked with him and silently learnt a lot from him,” adds Thakur.
The actor informs that he will start shooting for the Hindi version soon. “I’d like to thank Mr Jayantilal Gada for giving me this opportunity, and believing in me,” says Singh.
Thakur Anoop Singh had played the antagonist in the original. Tell us about this shift from being cast as the main villain to now playing the lead protagonist in Singam 3. “Well everyone starts acting with an intention of playing the lead, and making a mark in the industry. Honestly, when I had started out I was just happy about working and trying to showcase my abilities with whatever I was offered. I am nothing like what I play on screen, but I respect every character that's been offered to me and I try to justify it with the best of my abilities, and as per the director’s vision and instructions. So I think I was just waiting for someone to notice that I can switch sides and express myself even better,” the actor adds.
He has done action films earlier as well. Doesn’t he fear getting typecast in the genre? “I have done television & films and have learnt my art on the job. Those who have seen my work know how diverse roles I have played, right from Dhritarashtra to David in Ravi Teja Sir’s Khiladi. Action is a genre that I love to do & I work hard for it, but I can do other genres as well if I get something worthy,” Singh signs off.
