Iru Mugan’s producer Shibu Thameens who is backing Santosh Sivan’s Mumbaikar is in final talks with a major studio to collaborate on both the projects
Just like the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Andhadhun and Kangana Ranaut’s Queen is being remade in South, Bollywood too has been borrowing from South Indian films. Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming sports-drama Jersey is a remake of a 2019 Telugu film by the same name, while Telugu romantic-drama RX 100 is being made in Hindi with debutant Ahan Shetty and Tara Sutaria. Thadam’s Hindi version too is announced with Sidharth Malhotra, while Mohanlal’s Drishyam 2 Hindi remake rights have been bought by Kumar Mangat.
Pinkvilla now has an exclusive update on another South Indian film that will soon be remade in Hindi. A source close to the development informs that Vikram, Nayanthara and Nithya Menen starrer 2016 Tamil film, Iru Mugan’s Hindi remake is in the works. “Anand Shankar who directed the original will helm the Hindi remake as well. He is currently working on the script after which the makers will start looking for a cast. Iru Mugan’s producer Shibu Thameens who is backing Santosh Sivan’s Mumbaikar is in final talks with a major studio to collaborate on both the projects. Just like the original, its Hindi remake too will be a sci-fi action film and the makers are aiming to cast an A-lister to play the lead role,” adds the source.
Iru Mugan revolved around Vikran’s character who was on a mission to hunt down a wanted criminal. Meanwhile, Thameens’ Mumbaikar featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Vikrant Massey is in its last leg of shoot. The film is expected to wrap up in the next two days.
