INTERVIEW: Bobby Deol gets candid on his 2.0 version: When you achieve success, you are more nervous

Ever since his comeback in Bollywood in 2018 with Race 3, Bobby Deol is on a roll, omnipresent and co-existing in theatrical medium as also the digital world. The actor believes that following a sabbatical, he changed his attitude towards work and that’s what got him back in the industry. “My focus was to put all my energies into myself and be at work every day and that’s what made people noticed me. Salman gave me my first big film, Race 3 and him being the biggest superstar of our country, I knew that the film will be viewed by a lot of people. The younger generation had not seen much of my work and I think, that (film) got me back into the limelight,” Bobby shares.

He goes ahead to inform the follow up to Race was another big budget entertainer, Housefull 4. “Akshay is again a big star and after these two films, people started noticing me. But again people always saw me as a hero material, but when I finally did Class of 83, it made a lot of difference. It was a mature character that required me to underplay. And then, Ashram happened, which is a huge success in digital world. People have started looking differently,” he beams in joy. Prod him on the transition and he responds, “I thank god and my fans, who stood by me for 25 years. They always wanted their Bobby to get a good role, and it’s finally happening. It’s all the hard-work that pays off.”

He will next be seen in Ashram Season 2 and Bobby admits that there is ample of pressure on him and the team to deliver. “But that’s what an actor’s life is all about. When you achieve success, you are more nervous, because you need to maintain it. And that’s difficult, but appreciation gives you a longer innings as an actor,” he smiles, and doesn’t rule out the scope for Ashram season 3 as well. “They keep an open ending to all seasons. I have not read the whole script yet, but I am sure, season 2 will end at a moment that leads to third season. That’s how all web-series are written,” he signs off.

Bobby’s slate is full with multiple projects like the Shah Rukh Khan production, Love Hostel, the Anil Sharma directorial, Apne, which pairs him along wither father, Dharmendra, brother Sunny Deol and nephew, Karan Deol. The actor reunites with Abbas Mastan in PentHouse, and will also be seen alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal.
